- Nanotechnologies & Applications that change our lives (?)
- Threat or Opportunity for Society & Culture
- Nanotechnology & Artificial Intelligence: The Great Composition
At the end of the 4th year of SciFY Academy, we chose to tackle a much-discussed yet fascinating topic: Nanotechnologies. We organized a series of presentations, each examining the subject matter from a distinct perspective.
30th SciFY Academy: “Nanotechnologies & Applications that change our lives (?)” was the first topic of the series, where Dr. Eleni Makarona, Principal Researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of NCSR “Demokritos”, and Dr. Konstantinos Giannakopoulos, Researcher of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at NCSR “Demokritos” (Laboratory of Electron Microscopy and Nanomaterials), introduced us to the world of Nanotechnology. More specifically, we learned about the applications of Nanotechnology so far, as well as how it’s used in areas such as pharmacology, materials technology, the environment, and others.
31st SciFY Academy: The second seminar focused on the correlation between nanotechnology and society and culture. More specifically, at the event with the theme: “Nanotechnology Threat or Opportunity for Society & Culture”, professor Konstantinos Charitidis, Professor of the School of Chemical Engineering and Director of the Laboratory of Advanced, Composite, Nano Materials & Nanotechnology at the National Technical University of Athens, and Dr. Ioannis Karatassios, Researcher of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at NCSR “Demokritos”, enlightened us about the institutional framework, security, ethical limits as well as the benefits that Nanotechnology has to offer on a social and cultural level.
32nd SciFY Academy: The course on Nanotechnology concluded with a focus on the future of this science, Artificial Intelligence. In the third seminar titled “Nanotechnology & Artificial Intelligence: The Great Composition”, the speakers were Dr. Vassilis Konstantoudis, Researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at NCSR “Demokritos”, as well as Dr. George Giannakopoulos, Artificial Intelligence Researcher at “NCSR Demokritos”, co-founder of SciFY, and member of the Board of the Hellenic Society of Artificial Intelligence. There, they presented how these two significant new technology trends can be combined and what the results of this great composition are. See Dr. Giannakopoulos’s presentation here.
