On Wednesday, October 26th, as part of the Your Data Stories project, SciFY, ODI Athens of the – Open Technologies Organization –EELLAK, and NCSR Demokritos’s SKEL Lab collaborated to make a series of presentations related to Open Data (Open Data).
The speeches were given by distinguished business executives and experts in the specific research field, presenting innovative projects that promote the utilization and development of data, not only for the development of the economy and business activity but also for dealing with everyday and social problems.
As it became known from the speeches, the technological and business community is investing in the future and development of Big Data, looking for mechanisms and platforms to make the most of data and metadata. The identification and analysis of these help us to distinguish the useful information and to separate it from the “noise” to judge its reliability, and finally to predict with greater certainty future situations and trends of the market, even of social behavior.
Finally, special emphasis was placed on ways to maintain the balance between privacy and data openness, thus covering the legal side of the issue. It is worth noting that despite the large participation of speakers at the event, the content of the presentations was comprehensive and direct and gave a comprehensive approach to the subject, both on a business and research level.
Furthermore, despite the technical expertise around Open Data, the speakers ensured the smooth transmission of information, resulting in being understood even by the less experienced part of the audience. Perhaps this is due to the great response of the participants in the final stage of the event that followed, that of open discussion and questions.
