Environment & Health: Participatory Citizens Solutions

On Tuesday, December 6th, the 39th SciFY Academy on “Environment & Health: Participatory Citizen Solutions” took place.

First, Associate Professor Dimitris Frangikos Lekkas from the Department of Environment at the University of the Aegean discussed the impact of environmental quality on human health and the objectives of the Green European Agreement in this regard. Citizen Science can help change behavior and adopt practices that will contribute to the prevention of pollution and waste production, mitigating the effects of climate change. Then, Mrs. Elli Xenou, Head of Program and Advocacy at the Doctors of the World organization, spoke to us about the impact of the environment on human health and shared information about actions and projects that contribute to the improvement of both the environment and the health of citizens.

Next, Dimitra Tsakanika and Ilia Christantoni, from the IT company of the Municipality of Athens, DAEM, introduced us to the participatory actions and projects that are being implemented, allowing citizens to improve their environment and, consequently, protect their health. Finally, Mrs. Despina Chalvatzi, Project and Program Manager at SciFY, presented us with a participation platform that enables citizens to collaborate and shape policy regarding their city’s environment.
