Environment & Health: Participatory Citizens Solutions

On Tuesday, December 6th, the 39th SciFY Academy was held online with the theme: “Environment & Health: Participatory Citizen Solutions”.

Initially, Associate Professor Dimitris-Fragiskos Lekkas from the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean referred to the impact of environmental quality on human health and the objectives of the European Green Deal on the subject. Citizen Science can help change behavior and adopt practices that contribute to preventing pollution and waste production and mitigating the impacts of climate change. See his presentation here.

Then, Ms. Elli Xenou, Head of Programs and Advocacy at Doctors of the World, spoke to us about the environmental impact on human health and shared actions and projects that contribute to improving both the environment and the health of citizens.

Afterwards, Dimitra Tsakanika and Ilia Christantoni, from the IT company of the Municipality of Athens, DAEM, introduced us to the participatory actions and projects being implemented and to what citizens can do to improve their environment and, consequently, protect their health. Finally, Ms. Despina Halvatzi, Project and Program Manager at SciFY, presented us with the participatory platform where citizens collaborate to shape policy regarding their city’s environment.
