Technology and Active Aging

On Tuesday, February 28th, the 41st SciFY Academy on “Technology and Active Aging” took place in INNOVATHENS.

The event’s goals were for the participants to be informed about:

  • The status of active aging in Greece today,
  • Tools and programs available for the empowerment of the elderly,
  • New technologies have been developed to empower the elderly and others.

First, Vassilis Giannakopoulos, Marketing & Social Impact Manager of SciFY, demonstrated specific technological tools for the elderly and how they could be adapted to strengthen active aging and expand their social footprint, also referring to the European Project SHAPES (HORIZON2020). Then, Evangelia Romanopoulou, Scientific Associate at the Laboratory of Medical Physics and Digital Innovation of the School of Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, shared her scientific experience from academia, as well as from practical technology applications, including one of the most significant projects to empower the elderly in Europe.

Then, Stelios Pantelopoulos, Director of the Innovation Center of the Italian Maggioli group, presented us with the possibilities of the digital platform “precision mental exercise” Eligence and its evolution into a tool for researching new forms and methods of mental exercise.

Finally, Dr. Myrto-Maria Ranga, Managing Director of “50plus Hellas”, a doctor of Gerontology-Psychology and Psychologist, as well as Project Manager of Silver Guide, spoke to us about the programs and actions of “50plus Hellas”, as well as the role of technology in aging.
