Internet of Things – From the idea to the world market

library > Internet of Things – From the idea to the world market

“In an interconnected world, applications and opportunities.”

On Wednesday, April 13th, at 19:00, over 120 people attended the 10th SciFY Academy organized by SciFY and the INNOVATHENS Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub of the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens on “Internet of Things – From the Idea to the Global Market”. SciFY Academy is a series of presentations organized by the non-profit organization SciFY open to all interested in the free diffusion of knowledge.
Chrysostomos Bouras, member of the “ΤheThingsNetwork Αthens” community, opened the event. He presented to us the effort of his team (GRIoT) for the expansion of an Internet of Things network in Athens, which will belong exclusively to citizens/volunteers.

Then, Lefteris Papageorgiou, general manager of Entranet, with his many years of experience in the field of new technologies, introduced us to the world of the Internet of Things (IoT) using the “home of the future” as an example.

The expected question is, “What exactly does the house of the future have that differentiates it from ordinary residences?” The answer is that there can be total control of the home through voice commands. For example, we mention the possibility of voice recognition. One can talk to the elevator and tell it which floor they want to go to or the name or profession of the person they want to visit. Few of us knew that the residents of a smart home could have an electronic information bank updated with biometric information, the possibility of medication reminders, and the possibility of direct communication with medical centers.

Additionally, we were informed about the basic steps that must be taken in order to promote an innovative business idea: Step 1: Build your team. Step 2: Do market research. Step 3: Calculate the time you will need to enter the market. Step 4: Calculate the cost. Step 5: Make a Business Plan and follow it. Step 6: Do a Business Structure Analysis (Structure Breakdown). Step 7: Find the capital. Step 8: Consider alternative sources of funding

A big thank you to Lefteris Papageorgiou, Chrysostomos Mpouras, INNOVATHENS, and all our friends who attended and participated in the seminar, asking interesting questions and once again contributing to the realization of our vision for the free diffusion of knowledge!
