Is there an institutional framework for Nanotechnologies? Are we safe against this new trend? Are there ethical boundaries? How can Nanotechnology benefit our Culture?
We tried to answer these questions in the 2nd seminar of the “Nanotechnology” series that we organized as part of the SciFY Academy action to seek the truth amongst the inaccuracies.
Specifically, Prof. Konstantinos Charitidis, Professor of the School of Chemical Engineering and Director of the Advanced, Composites, Nano Materials, and Nanotechnology Research Unit at NTUA, talked to us about:
The field of Nano-safety and the case of Nano-toxicology
Life Cycle Analysis and Risk Assessment in Nanotechnology
Nanoethics: Towards a Socially Acceptable Nanotechnology
Then, Dr. Ioannis Karatassios, Researcher of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at NCSR “Demokritos”, approached the subject from a more practical side and described practical applications of Nanotechnology in the field of Culture as well as ways of utilizing it in related fields.
The event was addressed to researchers, professionals, and students in fields such as technology, culture, biology, IT, and other natural and theoretical sciences. As always, the event was open to all parties interested in new technologies and science.
SciFY, NCSR “Demokritos”, and INNOVATHENS powered by Samsung held the 31st SciFY Academy on “Nanotechnologies: Threat or Opportunity for Society & Culture”, on Thursday, May 16th, 2019, at 19:00, at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub of the Technopolis City of Athens (venue: INNOVATHENS powered by Samsung – Gas Station 2, Gazi, Athens).
