On Wednesday, February 3rd, the 37th SciFY Academy on “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Science” was held online. Over 60 people watched the event online.
More specifically, Manolis Patiniotis, Science and Technology Historian and professor in the Department of Sociology of EKPA, introduced us to our topic with some thoughts on the presence of Artificial Intelligence in the public debate. His presentation is entitled “The Usefulness of a Useless Conversation”.
Next, Dr. Vassilis Konstantoudis, Researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at NCSR Demokritos, shared some initial thoughts on the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and the past of Science, hoping that his apt reflection can lead us toward a more humane future of Science.
Then, Dr. Niki Vergadou, Researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of NCSR Demokritos, talked to us about the use of Artificial Intelligence in computational materials science, which aims to highlight the microscopic mechanisms that determine the macroscopic behavior of materials, the prediction of material properties, and the design of new materials.
Finally, Dr. Antonis Stellas, Data Scientist at NANOMETRISIS P.C., in this speech, presented his approach to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from its theoretical (being a student) as well as its technological side (on his first steps in industrial high-tech applications). Together, we found out whether, in this case, AI is a continuation or a subversion.
