SciFY Academy Event: New Materials, Nanotechnology & AI: Designing Tomorrow

Tuesday, October 14, 2025, 19.00 – 21.00 at Impact Hub Athens (28 Karaiskaki, Athens)
Free Participation – Registration Required
“…Imagine materials so tiny that they are a thousand times thinner than a human hair – this is the field of nanotechnology. Here, scientists “build” with atomic and molecular “building blocks” to create new materials that can self-heal, be lightweight yet strong, or mimic nature. With their help, we create products and technologies that once seemed impossible…” What do we know about them?
Science For You – SciFY invites you to a SciFY Academy event dedicated to new innovative materials, Nanotechnology, and Artificial Intelligence. The event “New Materials, Nanotechnology & AI: Designing Tomorrow” will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 19:00, at Impact Hub Athens (Karaiskaki 28, Athens). Distinguished researchers, internationally renowned professors, and business executives will speak to us in simple terms about the subject.
Participation is free and open to everyone!
Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, as space is limited.
A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to those who wish.

We invite you to discuss key issues such as:
- How are the materials of tomorrow (flexible semiconductors, self-healing, biomimetic) designed, and how does AI reduce the time and cost of their discovery?
- Can we “bottle the sky”? – What does the use of a NASA material in Art reveal to us?
- What secrets do material surfaces hide, and how does AI help us exploit them in applications ranging from medicine to microelectronics?

A few words about the speakers and content:
Prof. Ioannis Michaloudis, Founding Dean of the School of Humanities and Arts at the American University of Cyprus (Larnaca) – AUCY, will answer the allegorical question “Can we bottle the sky?” and help us discover how the collaboration of art and science can awaken and inspire solutions for the planet’s future. More specifically, he will talk about:
- What is the lightest and most transparent solid material in the world, used by NASA to collect stardust?
- How has it been applied in Art and Design?
- How, through artistic allegory, do Art and Science collaborate to cultivate new perceptions and sensitivities?
Dr. Vassilis Constantoudis, Principal Researcher at NCSR “Demokritos”, will introduce us, in an inspiring and accessible way, to the strange world of surfaces and the role of artificial intelligence in exploring them. In particular, the following questions will be examined:
- How can the surface of a material give it very useful properties, applied in ultrasensitive biopsies or in the creation of more energy-efficient electronic circuits?
- Are the mathematics we already have sufficient to understand their complexity?
- Can AI assist in their analysis and understanding, and how?
Panagiotis Krokidas, Associate Researcher at NCSR “Demokritos”, will speak about how the materials of tomorrow are designed with the help of Artificial Intelligence. In particular, he will address:
- What makes the design of new materials that pave the way for new technologies so difficult?
- How can AI provide faster and more cost-effective design?
- The challenge of the massive volume of data required.
Dr. Anastasios Siozios, Advanced Technologies Development Manager at BiC VIOLEX, will give a talk titled “Nanotechnology and New Materials at the Service of the Consumer.” Among other things, he will answer questions such as:
- How is nanotechnology a powerful tool that can be used to meet consumers’ daily needs?
- How does an ever-changing daily life and the emergence of new trends make the search for materials with upgraded or novel properties imperative?
SciFY Academy is an open series of educational activities, organized by the non-profit organization Science For You – SciFY, dedicated to the free dissemination of knowledge. So far, more than 10,000 people have benefited, and the activities continue!
Through the SciFY Academy initiative, SciFY aims to create a platform for dialogue, bringing together people from research, business, and civil society with citizens, students, and professionals. The goal is to learn from the recent past, understand current developments, and stay informed about both emerging and established technologies. To be inspired by scientific achievements and shed more light on issues that significantly affect our lives.
We look forward to discussing together the “magical world” of new materials and how they are changing our lives.
