Study on the adaptation of Athens Airport to climate change: Presentation of first results

How can an organization adapt to climate change — when its operations affect millions of people?

For many months now, we have been collaborating with Athens International Airport (AIA) and the National Observatory of Athens to plan the airport’s adaptation to climate change jointly. Our goal is to:

  • understand how the climate will change in the coming years.
  • study how it affects the airport’s operations and its collaborating entities.
  • collaborate with the entire ecosystem to develop the resilience of all those involved.

A few days ago, we presented the first major findings of the study to AIA executives and aviation industry stakeholders. The discussion that followed highlighted the importance of timely adaptation and joint action.

We left the event with a sense of hope and optimism, seeing people working closely and with keen interest toward a dual goal: on the one hand, mitigating environmental impacts, and on the other hand, strengthening the resilience of the air transport system to climate change.
