SciFY Academy Event: AI & Circular Economy

Science for You – SciFY invites you to a SciFY Academy event dedicated to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Circular Economy, and Artificial Intelligence. The event “AI & Circular Economy” will take place on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 19:00, at Impact Hub Athens ( Karaiskaki 28, Athens ). Artificial Intelligence Researchers, members of WWF Greece, and business executives from Greece and Cyprus will talk to us in simple terms about the subject. They will present the context, the opportunities presented by AI and Circular Economy, the challenges faced by SMEs, and specific ways to develop the skills they need through existing programs funded by the EU.
Participation is free and open to everyone!
Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, as space is limited.
A Certificate of Attendance will be provided to those who wish it.

We invite you to discuss key issues such as:
- What opportunities and challenges does Circular Economy present for Small and Medium Enterprises?
- What is Artificial Intelligence, and how can it contribute?
- What tools facilitate the transition of SMEs to a sustainable circular direction?
- What skills do SMEs need to develop to win the double bet of adapting to AI and Circular Economy? How can they do this by leveraging existing programs that are offered for free?

A few words about the speakers and the content:
Initially, Marinos Petrou, EU Project Manager at OMNIA, will talk to us about the Basic Principles of Circular Economy for Small and Medium Enterprises. More specifically, he will focus on:
- A brief and introductory look at the Principles of Circular Economy.
- The opportunities it can offer to Small and Medium Enterprises.
- The simple ways to achieve
- waste reduction
- the optimal use of resources to enhance competitiveness
- How the transition to a circular model can be beneficial, both for each business and for the environment.
Then, Achilleas Plitharas, Footprint Leader of WWF Greece, will address Circular Economy from context to practice. More specifically, he will talk to us about:
- The framework that SMEs can move within so that Circular Economy is no longer an abstract concept.
- How the market transformation towards a sustainable circular direction can be achieved.
- The tools that facilitate the transition
Dr. Aris Kosmopoulos, Artificial Intelligence Researcher & Software Engineer at Science For You – SciFY, will talk to us about how Circular Economy sectors can be empowered with the use of Artificial Intelligence. More specifically, he will address the following points:
- What is Artificial Intelligence, and what can it do for us?
- What are the Key Sectors of the Circular Economy (9R)?
- What are the opportunities and challenges of the union of the two worlds?
On behalf ofScience Fr You – SciFY, we’ll also hear from Vassilis Giannakopoulos, Chief Marketing Officer at the organization. Based on the work done in the European AI4GreenSME project, he will address the following:
- What skills do SMEs need to develop to win the double bet of adapting to AI and Circular Economy?
- What challenges do SMEs face in adopting AI and Circular Economy practices?
- How can they develop the required skills to face the challenges? AI4GreenSME’s free training program.
SciFY Academy is a series of educational activities open to all who are interested, organized by the non-profit organization Science For You – SciFY for the free dissemination of knowledge. Already, the beneficiaries up to date are more than 10,000, and the actions continue!
Through the SciFY Academy initiative, SciFY aspires to create a platform for discussion by bringing together people from the fields of research, business, and civil society with citizens, students, and professionals. The aim is to learn from the recent past and to get to know what is happening now, be informed about new technologies, as well as existing ones, be inspired by scientific achievements, and shed a little more light on issues that significantly affect our lives.
We are waiting for you to discuss the present and future of AI use in the Circular Economy and see in practice ways to develop the skills of SME executives.
