On Tuesday, February 28th, the 41st SciFY Academy on “Technology and Active Aging” took place in INNOVATHENS.
The event’s goals were for the participants to be informed about:
- the status of active aging in Greece today,
- tools and programs available for the empowerment of the elderly,
- new technologies developed with the goal of empowering the elderly and more.
First, Vassilis Giannakopoulos, Marketing & Social Impact Manager of SciFY, showed us specific technological tools for the elderly and how they could be adapted in such a way as to strengthen active aging and multiply their social footprint, also referring to the European Project SHAPES (HORIZON2020). Then, Evangelia Romanopoulou, Scientific Associate at the Laboratory of Medical Physics and Digital Innovation of the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, shared her scientific experience from academia as well as from practical technology applications, such as one of the largest projects to empower the elderly in Europe.
Then, Στέλιος Παντελόπουλος, Director of the Innovation Center of the Italian Maggioli group, presented us with the possibilities of the digital platform “precision mental exercise” Eligence and its evolution into a tool for researching new forms and methods of mental exercise. Finally, Dr. Myrto-Maria Ranga, Managing Director of “50plus Hellas”, doctor of Gerontology-Psychology – Psychologist and Project Manager of Silver Guide, spoke to us about the programs and actions of the 50plus Hellas as well as the role of technology in old age.
