ΑΙΙS: A project for the Future of Medicine

AIIS Project: Training Medical Students in issues regarding AI & Social Skills

The award-winning Non-Profit Organization Science For You – SciFY aims to improve the digital and social skills of medical students with an innovative online program developed in collaboration with European Higher Education Institutions and companies in 5 European countries: Spain, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands, and Belgium. This training includes understanding Artificial Intelligence’s (AI) potential in today’s medicine and training in Social Skills (Soft Skills) to strengthen the trust of healthcare professionals and society in AI. This training program is being developed as part of the implementation of the AIIS Project.

AIIS: Artificial Intelligence, Innovation & Society, is a 3-year Erasmus+ project, and the main outcome is to create a training program for medical students in Artificial Intelligence and Social Skills. To achieve this goal, we have organized a series of actions such as:

  • European research on IT and Soft Skills Education in medical studies,
  • AI & Social Skills Training Design in a Collaborative Learning Platform,
  • Cooperative Learning & Pilot Application,
  • Validation and recognition of the Educational program we develop by European Universities,
  • Open and Internal Training,
  • Quality assurance of all our processes by a Board of External Evaluation Experts,
  • Communication and Awareness Actions.

We are now completing our first activity, where our consortium researchers conducted a survey of medical professors and students in several EU countries. They also analyzed medical students’ curricula for a complete analysis. This research aims to detect the current training needs of these professionals in digital and social skills. The research findings will be made public soon and will later be used to design the program with interactive educational materials. To be notified, sign up here.

For the realization of the above action, we created a strong consortium consisting of 9 Organizations (Universities and private companies): Spain: University of Salamanca(Leader of the Project), CIBER ISCiii, MEUS, Finland: University of Turku, Turku University of Applied Sciences, Greece: University of Thessaly, Science For You – SciFY, Netherlands: Xebia, Belgium: University of Mons.
